Apparently, the voices of the past are pretty darned progressive! Bethany Frank, a Public Relations student at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana who has helped to develop the Voices of the Past Heritage Media website, describes it as “an online non-profit organization focused on communicating heritage values using new media.” Basically, people like Bethany who do not have a necessarily have preservation background are using their computer savvy-ness to reach a broader audience and keep them up to date on a variety of preservation issues. Knowing which social media outlets to use and how to use them no doubt reaches younger audiences who don’t necessarily receive preservation briefs in their mailboxes. They’ve inspired me to finally set up a Facebook fan page and I’m even going to attempt a Twitter account even though I am profoundly confused by them at present.
I was recently approached by Voices of the Past to be featured on their “Meet the Blogger” section of the website, so I giddily accepted. So, so many good things come out of Louisiana. I’ve begun to plan my next New Orleans volunteer trip and I tell you what, that state sure does give back.
Carla, can’t seem to get the Voices of the Past link to work.
I am officially a fan!
Aw, thanks, Paul! I just tried the link and it isn’t working no matter how I try and access it, so maybe their site is down for some reason this afternoon. It worked this morning, so I bet it will be back online soon enough. Thanks for letting me know!
works now, thanks!
This was refreshing. It’s nice to finally find a site where the blogger knows what they are talking about.
